Will the 80's ever die? If you happened to get a kick out of The Karate Kid (pun intended) and are old enough to actually remember those friendly little grass monsters everyone called "Smurfs", then have I got something in store for you! (pun intended, this CD is already in stores. i'm hilarious.) A brand new rock band by the name of "No More Kings" has begun raping US airwaves with its extremely addictive music off its self-titled debut album, No More Kings. Pete Michell, the band's frontman, calls his band's first album a "thank you letter to the 80's", and after listening to the lyrics you'll understand why. I've listened to this album a few times over now, and I've finally pinpointed what they sound like: a wicked combination of Jason Mraz's voice and Smash Mouth's beats. I'm probably way off here, but the bottom line is that this album will really grow on ya. After my first play-through I felt impartial to it, but then after I listened to it a few more times I found myself bobbing my head and really enjoying the music. No More Kings really has their own style and signature, regardless of who they may sound like. While this debut album may not win any Grammy's this year, it definitely puts this up and coming band on the map and solidifies them as a band to keep your eye on. Did I say eye? I mean ear, or ears if you have two. Overall a decent album; check out their official website to sample some of their tunes, and if you like it, you can order yourself a copy right from their site.
