Duncan Sheik. You've heard the name, but you can't think of any songs that have made the radio waves. You know he's had a few singles, but you just can't remember them. Flashback to 1997, Duncan finally gets his first single on the air, entitled "Barely Breathing". Since then Mr. Sheik hasn't made any other noise, save for outside the growing circle of his extremly loyal fan base. Now with the release of his latest album, a double-disc under the title, "A Duncan Sheik Anthology: Brighter/Later", he intends to change things by making some more noise and gaining a few new followers. Disc one focuses on the "brighter" side of his music, hence the title, while the second disc is meant to be listened to alone, while you're relaxing late at night.
If you've ever owned a Metallica tee shirt at any point in your lifetime, just stop reading this review right now because you're not gonna like Duncan Sheik. Personally, he reminds me of a few bands, more specifically "Tonic"; if you can remember them, another 90's band that didn't last all that long. If you're looking for a new album/artist to trow in your stereo while you drive to work, Duncan Sheik's new anothology might just be what you're looking for. The music is extremely relaxing and the songwriting ranks up there with some of the best artists of today. My suggestion? Head over to cdnow.com and listen to a few of the tracks, and go from there. Overall a pretty solid album, regardless if you like the music or not. Don't pass this one up people!
