She's back again, and chubbier than ever. Since I am lucky enough not to have seen the first Bridget Jones film, I was unaware that Renee Zellweger had to put on an extra 40 pounds of fun-padding for the role. After I said, "Man, I thought she was skinny?", at the beginning of the movie, my girlfriend kindly informed me that she only does it for the role of Bridget Jones; an insecure, overweight, English woman with a confusing love-life. While I still have on clue as to what happens in the first film, I can provide a little summary of the sequel's storyline for all my female readers out there in Cyberspace. Or for you bored-out-of-your-mind-I-won't-tell-anyone-you're-into-Bridget-Jones-supposed-heterosexual-males out there, I hope this helps. The Edge of Reason tells the tale of Bridget Jones, who is trying to find the path to true love. The problem is that she can't figure out if Hugh Grant or Colin Firth is the one she ultimately loves. Filled with lesbians, trivial pursuit, and lots of Thai hoars, Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason is sure to entertain, whether or not you even know what's going on.

You're probably wondering why in the hell I willingly even saw Bridget Jones, let alone write up an actual review for it. Right? Well, being the incredibly charming and sweet boyfriend I am, I agreed to see it and I kept an open mind. First off, my girlfriend loved it; not as much as she liked the first she said, but it was close. Second of all, I do not recommend this film to guys. I hope I'm preaching to the choir when I state this. I think overall the movie confused me more than anything, really. While I understand it's a love story and a romantic comedy, I knew that it would be a little far-fetched; almost fairytale like. Well, that assumption was an understatement, let me tell you. My girlfriend had to have been so annoyed, I honestly think I asked a couple hundred questions through the first couple scenes alone - and I started with, "Dude, when did Renee Zellweger invest in Hostess?" The peak of my confusion came when Renee and her coworker go along with Hugh Grant to Thailand for a business trip. Warning, spoiler ahead. Renee Zellweger ends up getting arrested for possession of cocaine (Coke-hyena!), and ends up in a Thai prison for like 7 months. For those of you ladies who have seen this movie, you're probably laughing at me right now but I really don't care. Maybe it's just me, but I really don't think a prison cell full of Thai hoars really want to choreograph a Madonna music video just because some large, airhead, English woman is locked up with them and wearing a bra. I don't know though, I've never been to jail. Or to Thailand, for that matter.

From a male perspective, this movie is not one I'd want to see again. But, I know just about every girl absolutely loves these movies, so to them it's a 3 or 4 star film. I'd personally just give it a 1 and a half, maybe two depending on how I feel. I just think it's a little crazy that English people have completley formal-wear parties with caviar where they play nothing but Trivial Pursuit ... I'm still so confused as to where this actually happens. Whatever. Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason definately has it's ups and downs, especially depending on who you ask. Great dating film though, for sure. For a guys night out, not the best of choices. In fact that choice would be downright scary. Go see SAW (Haha, I said it again!) instead.
