The Wicker Man DVD Review
Warne Bros - Buy The Wicker Man!
Review Posted on January 14th, 2006
The story is a missing girl. The setting is a private island filled with pagan rituals and deadly deceit. The film is The Wicker Man, and the leading role of policeman Edward Malus went to Nicolas Cage. His mission: to find and recover the missing child, however, as the movie goes on a missing girl is not the only storm Malus has to negotiate. On the island of Summersisle guns and badges mean nothing; there are no rules here; only the rules of the Gods. The Wicker Man is flat out creepy; just a really solid horror/suspense film overall. Nicolas Cage, Leelee Sobieski, and Ellen Burstyn are all phenomenal and the plot is honestly believable, although credit the actors for portraying it that way. Do the special features stack up with this stellar feature presentation, or should you be scared of buying this DVD?
To answer that important question: the special features do stack up, and really go way beyond the norm for a one disc DVD release. The most important feature here is that you get two seperate versions of the film: an unrated version on Side A with an alternate end sequence not shown in theaters, and on Side B you get the original widescreen theatrical release version. Now that is an outstanding special feature; why can't every movie have that? On top of that you'll be getting tons of audio commentary from all the stars and directors/producers, as well as the original theatrical trailer. If you don't speak English you also get subtitles in French and Spanish (and English too obviously), so Warner Bros has everyone covered in that department. The Wicker Man is an unbelievable horror movie that alone is worth the purchase, but when you add special features like these it makes this purchase even sweeter for your money. This is a must buy people; pick this one up today!
