When you tell mob secrets to the FBI, you better be prepared to dodge bullets. Literally. Buddy "Aces" Israel, played by Entourage superagent Jeremy Piven, has been doing just that from the comfort of his swanky Las Vegas casa, and he's about to pay the price because every hitman, ex-con, and assassin is trying to knock him off to score the bounty in the box office hit Smokin' Aces (full preview here). If you somehow missed this badass flick when it pranced through theaters like yours truly, don't fret because Universal is unleashing this beast of a film onto DVD store shelves everywhere, so you won't have to wait. Aces is packed with starpower too, featuring an epic cast consisting of Ben Affleck, Jason Bateman, Alicia Keys, Ray Liotta, Ryan Reynolds, Andy Garcia, and Common; oh, it's also packed with some action scenes too. Just a few though. Ginormous amounts of starpower, action, and a stellar movie usually results in a must-have DVD purchase, but what about the bonus features?
The bonus features, I'm happy to report, are just as badass as the feature presentation. What Smokin' Aces lacks in variety it makes up for in quantity and quality, more specifically in the unprecedented 18 full minutes of deleted scenes. Most DVD releases, regardless of the film's size only include one or two quick deleted scenes, but with the Smokin' Aces release you're getting almost 20. Are you smiling right now? I hope so, because I am; although that could be due to the fact that I'm holding an advance review copy, and you're not. Moving on, Universal was also sweet enough to include a very cool alternate ending that you have got to watch. It's not as good as the real ending, hence why it's the "alternate", but it's always a good thing when these features get added in. When you pick up this DVD today you'll also get a lengthy feature dissecting how they shot (pun intended) some of the intricate action scenes, which is neat to see. Overall the special features compliment the stellar feature presentation nicely, and it's all on one disc and without the "Special Edition" label. Overall Smokin' Aces is a perfect DVD release, and receives our highest recommendation. Go pick up this bad boy today.
Oh I almost forgot (ok thats a lie, I just wanted to start a new paragraph), a bad ass flash game has been released to coincide with the DVD which you can play by clicking here! Try and smoke Buddy Israel in the Smokin' Aces Card Killer Game!
