Back in college in my fraternity, we always had Senior Roast Night at the end of the year along with a bar crawl to send the seniors off that were graduating. That night always ended up being the most anticipated night of the year (although I think the bar crawl had something to with that), and it was for good reason: the stories, the jokes, and having all your best friends there made it a memorable and absolutley hilarious night. Now if our roasts were broadcasted on national television via Comedy Central, I guarantee ratings would tank and for good reason: nobody knows who the hell we are. Then again if we would've had Lisa Lampanelli (hilarious!!!), Andy Dick, Jason Alexander, Farrah Fawcet (who somehow still looks hot as hell), Greg Giraldo, Jimmy Kimmel, Ben Stiller, Sandra Bullock, Fred Willard, Patton Oswalt, and a dozen more big time comedic names I'm sure the show's ratings as when Comedy Central hosted the "Roast of William Shatner", which just happens to be sitting here in front of me in DVD review form. To cut through the "shat" and get straight to the point, "Comedy Central Roast of William Shatner" is freaking hilarious! You don't even have to be a William Shatner fan or a Trekkie; I wasn't either. The stand-up aspect alone on this DVD makes this DVD worth the purchase price.

With a DVD like this that isn't a feature film or a television series, you don't really expect many special features as a consumer. That being said, Comedy Central really went the extra mile to include some very cool bonus features that really give you more value for your buck. The "Making of the Roast Featurette" is very cool to see, because it goes to show just how much you still have to script these events, and yet still make it appear that it's not. You'll also be getting tons of really funny red carpet interviews with a lot of the roasters, as well as loads more behind the scenes footage that you just don't see on DVDs like these. Overall I'm very impressed with the bonus features; it compliments the excellent feature presentation superbly.

I almost forgot - did you know that this is the extended (by 20 mins!) and uncensored version of the roast? That means more F-Bombs, more hilarious "Andy Dick Is Gay" jokes, and more of Betty White being old. Folks, you do not have to have seen an episode of Star Trek, or any of Mr. Shatner's previous works to fall on the floor laughing as you watch this. Hell, the Lisa Lampenelli roast alone is worth this purchase price. Overall an excellent DVD, and in my mind deserves a perfect score. Pick this one up today!
