Blackballed: The Bobby Dukes Story Review
Shout Factory (Television)
2006
You know him as Rob Corddry on "The Daily Show", but there's a lot more than
meets the eye. You see, his real name isn't Corddry, no. His real name is Dukes, as in
Bobby Dukes. Never heard of him? Mr. Dukes not only happens to be the funniest fake news
reporter on all of television, but he also lives as paintball's first true superstar - and
cheater. Ten years ago, Bobby Dukes was on top of the professional paintball world as it's
number one player, but during a championship match he was caught cheating, and the sport issued
him a ten year ban. Now that the ban has been lifted Bobby wants to reclaim his title, but
he's having problems finding players that will play with him and the legacy that hangs
over his head.
Blackballed: The Bobby Dukes Story is a stellar comedy that shines
due to an outstanding and well-balanced cast. From his misfit ridden team where half
the members are afraid of getting hit by paintballs, to the Paintball president who publicly
despises our hockey playing hoser-neighbors to the North, the entire cast is simply
hilarious and elevate this DVD from a simple "rent-me", to a "buy-me so you can watch me over and
over again" title. Another huge plus about this DVD is the fact that it's physically
loaded to the gills with extra features. I mean real special features too that are
actually worth watching; this stuff is not filler.
What else is there to say? Well, at the 2004 SXSW Film Festival it won the
prestigious "Audience Award", which for all of us non-film majors that translates to, "The audience
laughed their fuckin asses off during this film!" All around an outstanding
DVD title that deserves a spot in your collection, even if you've never played the game of
paintball. Oh, and by the way, I've got two signed copies of Blackballed: The
Bobby Dukes Story that I'm giving away to two lucky readers in the College Downtime Forums. I'm not lying here folks, Rob
Corddry signed both of them, and I'm giving both of them away!
