Calling all history majors! Have I got a DVD box set for you! BBC Video is about to unleash a monster six-disc box set called, "BBC Atlas of the Natural World: Western Hemisphere and Antarctica", and it's calling your name. That's almost 18 friggin hours of delicious, professional insight into the intricate relationship between humans, wildlife, and nature in the Western Hemisphere. The collection is broken down into four different segments: Land of the Eagle, Spirts of the Jaguar, Wild South America, and Life in the Freezer. If you can't figure out which titles go with which land areas, well A: I feel sorry for you, and B: I think you need a copy of this to catch up with the rest of the world. Even if you're not interested in this box set, I guarandamntee that someone on your Christmas shopping list is, so keep this one in mind.
Main feature aside, how about the extra features? Sadly the only extras you'll be getting with this collection is a pretty weak supplemental viewing mode called "Enhanced Content Mode", which basically pops up a few windows during each series giving you some extra useless trivia. Oh, and how can I forget: English and Spanish language tracks are also included. That's it. I guess it's not that bad of a deal though considering you're buying nearly 18 hours of awesome intellectual footage, so I can't really complain. Could they have thrown in a few more extras? Yeah, but the main feature alone is enough to get this title a respectable score from this reviewer. If you've got a history major on your shopping list this holiday season, the "BBC Atlas of the Natural World: Western Hemisphere and Antarctica" is a must-purchase.
