Thirteen years ago, author Scott B. Smith floored suspense readers around the world with his first book entitled, A Simple Plan. Just released today, The Ruins hopes to follow up on the mega-success of A Simple Plan, and to just get straight to the point I don't think it will have any problem accomplishing that. For a suspense novel to truly be successful it has be believable, and the plot has to begin building up from Page 1. Filler information must be kept to an absolute minimum, and the characters must feel real in order to suck the reader into the story. The Ruins blows these benchmarks away and then some. If you're looking for a true page-turner that will suck you in make your heart pump, then The Ruins needs to be on your dorm bookshelf right now.

Want a quick plot overview before you place your order or head out to the bookstore? The Ruins takes readers to beautiful Cancun, Mexico as it follows a group of four friends enjoying a relaxing three-week vacation under the sun. Eric, Jeff, Amy, and Stacy were nearing the final week of their trip when they decided to venture out of the resort to help a friend at the resort who lost his brother out in the Mayan ruins. Feeling the urge for a little variety from sleeping on the beach every day, the four headed out with a few foreign companions only to encounter something they could have never imagined.

Simply by reading the first few pages of this 319 page novel you'll be sucked in. This novel, which usually would last a few weeks, was finished in a matter of two days; yes, two days! This is coming from a ginormous Michael Crichton fan, so I'm no stranger to a solid suspense novel. If you're looking for a great new read, look no further than Scott Smith's latest book The Ruins. Without a doubt, this novel receives my highest recommendations. Order it or pick it up today.
