Band added by Raffman on December 2nd, 2006.

The history of Bottle of Justus dates back to the late 90s where the band originated on the campus of Illinois State University. Twin brothers Chris and Joe Quinlan formed the band along with Jeff Johnson and Erik Bogdonas. Bottle of Justus quickly progressed from playing fraternity parties to touring around the nation (including selling out the House of Blues in Chicago). BOJ has gone on to release three albums during the past few years. Their first CD America Cries (2001) garnered a lot of buzz on the national scene. While the second release On Air (2003) was produced by Jason Elgin (Creed, Collective Soul) and is full of hooky/radio singles. The latest album Lemon Live (2004) captures the energy the band puts into their live shows. The new full length CD titled suddenly o.k. (2005) arrived on January 4, 2005. It was recorded over a two month period in Birmingham, AL at Synchromesh Studios with Jason Elgin. BOJ has shared the stage with: Maroon 5, Vertical Horizon, Guster, Better Than Ezra, Stroke 9, Eve 6, Ben Folds, Collective Soul, Sister Hazel, Rusted Root, Lifehouse, Tonic, Dave Navarro, Cake, The Bodeans, Soul Asylum, Sugar Ray, and many other national acts across the country.

The Interview!
1. How long have you guys been together?

8 years.

2. Who thought of the band name? Any meaning or influences behind it?

Joey thought of the name in second grade. The meaning is pretty ridiculous; it was the name of Joe & I's lip synching group when we were 7 years old. Our friend Justus was in the "group" too. Weird, long fucking story.

3. Who has been your biggest influence behind your band's music?

Honestly we listen to a bunch of shit. Everyone from The Beatles, Tom Petty ... to Pearl Jam and Alice n Chains.

4. Out of your currently released tracks, which is the biggest fan favorite?

Probably "circles". we have a very interactive show with the crowd and 'circles' is proabably just the easiest song to sing along with.

5. How was your recent tour on the East coast? Any funny stories from the trip? When's the next tour planned and where are ya headed?

That tour went great, had a blast as usual. I wish I could tell the stories but my parents google Bottle of Justus too much, they'd hear it all ... Hi Mom and Dad.

6. What's BOJ's favorite venue to play at?

Probably the Chicago House of Blues, beautiful place. Everytime we play there I can't believe they let us in the back door. Kinda strange playing a venue that such huge acts play the night before. I always look around the dressing room for forgotten shit. Usually there's only pointless junk like set lists and drum sticks, whatever ... well once I found a Tom Petty set list; that was pretty cool.

7. I see you've performed at Illinois State University before. Have you played at others? What's your favorite campus to play at?

We've played several college campuses. We did a 2 month tour playing 2 college venues a day; that was crazy! My favorite campus is probably Purdue. The radio supports BOJ there so the kids know a lot about us before we even get there.

8. What's the greatest thing about being in a band?

Probably not having to work for someone else, we just work for the crowd ... oooooooh that was incredibly cheesy.

9. Where do you see Bottle of Justus in 5 years?

Eh. If i thought that far ahead I don't think I'd be able to function. We just take it month by month ... try to book as many gigs as possible.

10. If you could open for any band at any venue in the world, who would you open for and where would it be?

Pearl Jam at the Red Rocks.

11. For the whole band, what would each of you be doing right now if you weren't in the band or a musician?

Chris: I'd be working for a label, trying to find undiscovered artists.

Joey: He'd be teaching kindergarden; they'd understand him.

Erik: Erik would probably ... jeez i dunno. Can't picture him in a suit, that's funny.

Jeff: He would be teaching high school music. That's what he got his degree in.
