Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots Preview
PS3 (Konami)
3rd Person Stealth Shooter, Release Date: 2007
Posted October 25th, 2006
This is it people. Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots for the upcoming PS3 will be the Metal Gear that ends all Metal Gears. Guns of the Patriots is the grand finale. The last straw, the last go around. This is it. How have I arrived at this presumption, you ask? Two reasons brought me to this, with the first being that Snake has aged considerably and now looks like an old man in a ninja suit. While the first observation brings the argument to the speculation table, it's this next reason that drives the nail in the coffin. In one of the trailers below, at the very end of the video listen to what Snake says as he puts a pistol in his mouth: "One more thing I must do. One last punishment I must endure. This is my final mission." Final mission. Now who knows if it will be the last game of the series; probably not from a business standpoint, but maybe they want to step back and cash out all their chips now. You know, leaving the series with an exclamation point instead of pumping out a few duds to give Metal Gear a bad name. Bad news of the series aside, this is going to be one helluva game.
While Kojima (developer) has been quieter than Miyamoto on any and all game details, we have been able to piece together a few things from what's been released so far. The juiciest piece of info we can tell you is that every character from every single Metal Gear will make an appearance in Metal Gear Solid 4; I'm even talking about the ones from the original NES games! How kickass is that? Raiden, Colonel Roy Campbell, Liquid Ocelot, Naomi Hunter, and all your other favorites will be on your television screen when this epic game gets released next year. I can't describe to you in words just how cool Raiden is in this upcoming installment; you honestly have to see him for yourself in the official trailers below. Aside from the news on the returning cast of old characters, only a little bit of the storyline has been released to the public.

Guns of the Patriots drops Snake and his supporting cast somewhere in the Middle East. Apparently the United States has sold too much of his military knowhow to third world countries, as many of them have banded together and form a very real threat to the West. These five PMC's, or Private Military Contractors, have unified themselves under a mock corporation by the name of "Outer Heaven". Can you guess who's running Outer Heaven? I'll give you a hint: it rhymes with Liquid Ocelot. Crap, never mind, I just gave it away didn't I? Oh well I'm sure you could've guessed who it was anyway. The trailers also leave hints that Snake only has about six months left to live, and that his body is slowly decaying. Does this mean we'll see a sickly looking Snake as we near the end of the game? I'd think so, but then again who knows what Kojima and Konami have up their sleeves.
As far as gameplay goes, all we have to look at is what we see in the trailers below. Nothing looks extraordinarily new in the gameplay department, but then again no info on it has officially been released. The graphics look absolutely sick, from the beautiful environments (if you like deserts) to the ultra-detailed player models. So. What we do know thus far points to hands down the best Metal Gear title yet, which is scary to think about because we barely know anything at this point. As we get closer and closer to the PS3 launch and the Guns of the Patriots release, the excitement is only going to keep building. In the words of Bob Costas from the epic film Basketball, "You're excited? Feel these nipples!" As soon as we get more juice on this title we'll post it, so stay tuned and enjoy the screens and videos! More info as it comes.
