Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare Preview

If you missed the Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare trailer premiere during the NFL Draft today, don't fret because we've got a copy of it already on-site that you can find by clicking right here! While the first three COD titles all took place in World War Dos settings, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare takes place in today's world (hence the "modern" warfare part) that looks to be jammed packed with terrorists, Middle Eastern settings, and RPG's. While all we have information-wise is what we can see via the trailer, the video does shed some light on what we can probably expect from the upcoming game.

First off COD 4 looks absolutely amazing. The first three all rank up there with the best as far as FPS's go, and this one looks to be the best one yet. "Fourzerotwo", Infinity Ward's community manager had this to tell us today: "Some cool things to notice is that all that footage is taken directly from the SP campaign, so you're looking at the actual gameplay you'll get to play. The only exception of course are the logos, waving flags, etc. All the action is actual in-game action captured from the SP of the game." All the footage you just witnessed my friends is in-game gameplay. Yeah, we're drooling too.



Stellar visuals aside, a few other scenes from the trailer caught my eye: the many instances involving stealth and the nuclear blast mushroom cloud you see about 3/4 of the way through. The past Call of Duty's didn't offer a whole lot in terms of stealth action, but it looks like Modern Warfare is about to cure that for us with plenty of stealth gameplay a la Splinter Cell. The nuclear blast I didn't even notice until I watched it a second time through, and I think that was Activivision's plan. Where the nuke hits is beyond me, but I'm guessing that terrorist looking leader with the Blue Blockers is the one behind it. Spoiler? Maybe. In all honesty probably not, but it's an interesting decision to throw it in there.

According to Mr. Fourzerotwo Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare is slated for a Fall 2007 release date as it will be arriving only on the PC platform. Will we ever see it reach the consoles? Probably, but it looks like it's going to be PC-exclusive for a while. To me that's not a surprise as the original Call of Duty for the PC was far and away the best version; I think Activision feels the gaming community knows this and is planning accordingly.
